Biography
U.S. city. Consolidation of the city of New York, the county of New York, the city of Brooklyn, the county of Kings, the county of Richmond, and part of the county of Queens and incorporation as the "City of New York" was approved May 4, 1897, effective January 1, 1898 (1897 New York Laws, Chapter 378, pp. 1-555).
