U.S. city. Population 506,385 (1999) +3.7% 1990-1999. State capital. Consolidated city and county seat of Davidson County.
Established by North Carolina: June 2, 1784
Earliest incorporation as a town: Sep. 11, 1806
Earliest incorporation as a town was passed September 11, 1806 (1806 Tennessee Acts, Chapter 33, pp. 83-85).
Established as Nash-Ville by the State of North Carolina in an act that was ratified and signed on June 2, 1784 (1784 North Carolina Laws, Chapter 47, pp. 71-72, date on p. 92).
Although trustees were appointed to "regulate and resurvey" the town in an act passed April 23, 1796, their powers were limited to hiring a surveyor and selling lots (1796 Tennessee Acts, Chapter 29, pp. 97-99).
