U.S. city. Population 200,206 (1999) +0.9% 1990-1999. County seat of Mobile County.
Earliest incorporation as a town: Jan. 20, 1814
Incorporation as a city: Dec. 17, 1819
Earliest incorporation as a town was approved by the Governor of the Mississippi Territory on January 20, 1814 and the first election of town officials was held on March 7, 1814 "or as soon thereafter as may be convenient" (1813 Mississippi Territory Acts at pp. 16-18).
Incorporation as a city was approved by the Governor on December 17, 1819 (1819 Alabama Acts at pp. 125-133).
