U.S. city. Population 353,395 (1999) -4.0% 1990-1999. County seat of Hennepin County.
Incorporation of city of St. Anthony: Mar. 3, 1855
Incorporation of the township of Minneapolis: Mar. 1, 1856
Incorporation of city of Minneapolis: Mar. 2, 1866
Merger of St. Anthony and Minneapolis: Feb. 28, 1872
Incorporation of St. Anthony as a city was approved March 3, 1855 (1855 Territory of Minnesota Laws, Chapter 2, pp. 10-18).
Incorporation of Minneapolis as a city was approved March 2, 1866, effective from and after passage, and subject to acceptance by a majority of the electorate in special elections held in the first district on March 21, 1866 and in the second district on March 19, 1866 (1866 Minnesota Laws, Chapter 18, pp. 88-133). The first election was held on March 6, 1866 (ibid). This act states "all public property of the town of Minneapolis belongs exclusively to the second district of the city of Minneapolis" (ibid).
Minneapolis was consolidated with the city of St. Anthony in an act that was approved February 28, 1872 (1872 Minnesota Special Laws, Chapter 10, pp. 56-90).
Incorporation of the township of Minneapolis was approved March 1, 1856 (1856 Territory of Minnesota Laws, Chapter 128, pp. 187-191).
