Incorporated: Aug. 6, 1896
Incorporation as a city was legalized and validated: June 4, 1897
Incorporation under a general act was effective when it was entered by the clerk of the circuit court upon the public records of the county on August 6, 1896 (Record of Incorporations, Dade County, vol. A, p. 28 as cited in A List of Municipal Corporations in Florida, revised, prepared by the Historical Records Survey, Work Projects Administration, March 1941, Jacksonville, Florida: Historical Records Survey, p. 51). A town meeting to incorporate (attended by 343 voters) was held on July 28, 1896 at 2:00 pm (The History of Dade County, Florida by Tracy Hollingsworth, 1936, p. 34 and John Sewell's Memoirs and History of Miami Florida, Vol. 1 by John Sewell, 1933, p. 53).
Incorporation as a city was legalized and declared valid in an act approved June 4, 1897 (1897 Florida Laws, Chapter 4643, p. 252).
