U.S. city. Population 113,336 (1999) +6.3% 1990-1999. County seat of Bibb County.

Established: Dec. 23, 1822

Earliest incorporation as a town: Dec. 8, 1823

First election: Jan. 3, 1825

Incorporation as a city: Dec. 26, 1832

Earliest incorporation as a town was assented to by the Governor December 8, 1823 (1823 Georgia Acts at pp. 162-165). The commissioners appointed by the act served until the first election was held on January 3, 1825 (ibid).

Incorporation as a city was assented to by the Governor December 26, 1832 (1832 Georgia Acts at pp. 209-213).
