U.S. city. Population 243,785 (1999) +8.2% 1990-1999. Consolidated city, county seat of Fayette County.

Established by Virginia: July 1, 1782

Self regulation act that authorized elections: June 29, 1792

First election: Aug. 14, 1792

Incorporation as a city: Dec. 7, 1831

An act "regulating the town of Lexington" that authorized elections and empowered trustees to make regulations for the town was approved June 29, 1792 and the first election was held on August 14, 1792 (1792 Kentucky Acts, Chapter 11, pp. 18-20).

Incorporation as a city was approved December 7, 1831 (1831 Kentucky Acts, Chapter 633, pp. 57-71).

Established by Virginia in an act approved July 1, 1782 (1782 Virginia Acts, Chapter 93, p. 37, date is from the index).
