Incorporation as a city: May 31, 1887
Consolidated with the county: Oct. 1, 1968, 9:15 AM
Earliest incorporation as a town was passed February 9, 1832, was approved February 11, 1832 and the first election was held on April 2, 1832 (1832 Territory of Florida Laws, No. 71, pp. 108-113).
It was incorporated as a city and Fairfield and LaVilla were annexed in an act that was approved May 31, 1887 (1887 Florida Laws, Chapter 3774, pp. 160-181).
Duval County and Jacksonville were consolidated on October 1, 1968 at 9:15 AM after a referendum was held on August 8, 1967 (Oct 1, 1968, A Date with Destiny by the City Commission).
