U.S. city. Population 117,545 (1999) +4.6% 1990-1999. County seat of Jackson County.
Incorporation as a city: Mar. 8, 1849
Incorporation as a city was approved March 8, 1849, subject to acceptance by a majority of the electorate at a special election held on April 2, 1849 (1848 Missouri Laws at pp. 329-335).
Laid out in 1827 and the plat was approved by the county court on June 1, 1827 (The History of Jackson County, 1966, pp. 633-634).
