Consolidation of the City of Hampton, the town of Phoebus and Elizabeth City County into a new City of Hampton: April 11, 1950
Incorporation as a town was passed March 15, 1849 (1848 Virginia Acts, Chapter 291, pp. 217-222).
Consolidation of the City of Hampton, the town of Phoebus and Elizabeth City County into a new City of Hampton was authorized in an act that was approved April 11, 1950, subject to acceptance by a majority vote in a special election (1950 Virginia Acts, Chapter 583, pp. 1591-1597) held on July 1, 1952 (A Body Incorporate by Chester W. Bain, Charlottesville, VA: University Press of Virginia, 1967, p. 118).
