U.S. city. Population 499,775 (1999) +6.9% 1990-1999. State capital. Consolidated city, county seat of city and county of Denver.
Earliest incorporation, as a city: Dec. 3, 1859
Second incorporation as a city: Nov. 7, 1861
Merger of three towns and earliest incorporation as the city of "Denver, Auraria and Highland" was approved by the Governor December 3, 1859 and the first election was held on December 19, 1859 (1859 Jefferson Territory Special Acts, Chapter 1, pp. 267-278).
Incorporation as the city of Denver by the Territory of Colorado was approved November 7, 1861 (1861 Territory of Colorado Laws at pp. 483-495).
