Biography
French composer of operas, piano and orchestral works and rhapsodies. He was a follower of Richard Wagner in style. He studied law in Paris, working for 18 years for the French ministry of interior, 1862-1880, before devoting full time to music in 1881; a choirmaster under Lamoureux. His first great success was "Espana" released in 1883 after his move to Spain. This was followed by piano concertos in 1885 and 1891and a comic opera in 1887. He was the author of his memoirs.
Chabrier married Marie Alice Dejean in 1873 and he died 9/13/1894, Paris.
