Biography
American athlete, queen of one of the premier Olympic events, the Decathlon of swimming. On the first day of the 1984 Olympics she won Gold for the 400-meter individual medley relay for women with a record time of 4 min 19.24 sec, three seconds off the world record.
Hurt by the boycott of 1980, she has won gold medals at world championships, at Pan-Am games and at every national meet she's entered. She has more national titles (48) than any other U.S. swimmer.
