Biography

Peruvian-American anthropologist and mystic, the author of "The Teachings of Don Juan," 1968, "The Separate Reality," 1971, "Tales of Power," 1974 and "Trilogy," 1974. While a student, he spent five years in Mexico as an apprentice to a Yaqui Indian sorcerer. Called by some "the father of the New Age movement," Castaneda's books charter alternate realities and sparked wide interest in New Age Spirituality.

Highly reclusive all of his life, Castaneda always avoided the spotlight. Even though he made millions of readers throughout the world, his ten books continue to sell in 17 languages and he once appeared on the cover of Time magazine, he rarely spoke or appeared in public, nor did he give interviews.

Died of liver cancer on 4/27/1998 at his home in Los Angeles, CA.
