Biography

American frontiersman, trapper, Indian-fighter, rancher, and army general, the archetype of the American pioneer. He spent a life of wanderlust from the time he was age 15, when he ran away to join a wagon train bound for Santa Fe and Taos, NM. Carson is said to have killed more men than Billy the Kid.

Died on 5/23/1868, Fort Lyon, CO.

"Kit Carson's Own Story of His Life," edited by Blanche Grant, 1926, states on p.9, "I was born on the 24 Dec. 1809 in Madison County, KY"
