Biography
American tennis champion by the age of 16, beating Chanda Rubin at Wimbledon June 1992. She turned pro before her 14th birthday and beat Martina Navratilova to reach the semifinals in 1991. Tennis made her a teenage millionaire with prize money and endorsements.
Too famed too soon, Capriati hit personal and professional snags with a 1994 drug arrest and a shoplifting incident. She came full circle in January 2001, charging through the rankings at the recent Australian Open on the way to her first Grand Slam Championship and taking home close to a half million dollars.
