Biography
American pro baseball pitcher who was influenced by his uncle, Ray Hathaway, a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers. After attending Ohio State, Burba was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round draft pick 6/02/1987. He was then traded to the San Francisco Giants, 12/11/1991, playing with them until 7/21/1995 when he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. Due to an injury, he was placed on the disabled list for a short time period in August 1997.
Statistically, Burba has pitched one winning game in the division series in 1995 and played in the championship series game later that same season. At 6' 3", 215 lbs., he throws right, bats right and has played for two years in the American League and eight years in the National League as of 1998. He made a sacrifice hit in his only appearance as a pinch-hitter in 1995 and led the N.L. in 10 hit batsmen in 1991.
