Biography

British writer, one of three sisters who became published authors. Her "Wuthering Heights" has retained its fascination for over a century.

She caught a cold at the funeral of her brother Branwell in September 1848 that did not seem to go away. On December 18, carrying bread and meat in her apron from the kitchen for the two house dogs, she staggered and fell. She forced herself to sit by the fire to comb out her long hair. When the comb dropped, she lacked the strength to retrieve it. The wildest, most passionate of the Bronte sisters died that day by 2:00 PM at their home in Haworth.

Anne, the third sister, who wrote "Agnes Gray" and "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall," was born on January 17, 1820.
