Biography

American politician, a leading advocate for equality and fairness for U.S. women and their families. An original sponsor of ERA, she fought for the Civil Rights Act of 1991 to give women effective legal remedies to fight sex discrimination and harassment at work. She is one of the nation's pro-choice advocates.

During her senior year at Brooklyn College, she married Stewart Boxer, a law student. In 1965 they moved to Marin County, CA. After giving birth to son Doug and daughter Nicole, Boxer became a force in local liberal politics, working to end the Vietnam War and supporting environmental causes. Boxer was elected to the Marin County Board of Supervisors in 1976. From 1982 she has been the Rep from California to Congress and by 1992, serving her fifth term. An attractive brunette, she ran for Senator November 1992. Elected, she was sworn in 1/05/1993.
