Biography
Scottish explorer, a member of the polar expedition led by Capt. Scott. Optimistic, restless, full of plans and the joy of life, he was an ambitious navy man. Physically fit and disciplined, he nonetheless had an obsessive fear of spiders. He died on the return from the South Pole early in 1912.
