Biography

English poet and critic born in Malaysia who worked in a lawyer's office until his first poem was published in 1934; by 1937 he had won awards. After the war, he lectured on English literature. His first book as a critic came out in 1958, "The Poet's Grammar." He also wrote "Poetry and the Physical Voice," 1962.

Married, he had two kids. In 1941, he converted to Catholicism.
