Biography
Italian composer of operas who was celebrated for lyric beauty and dazzling vocal embellishments, a repertory of the Bel Canto school. Born into a family of musicians, he studied at the Naples Conservatory, winning the notice of Dominico Barbaja through which his first commissions came.
His first opera was performed in 1825, leading to his major works, "La Sonnamubula" in 1831, his famed "Norma" also in 1831 and "I Puritani" in 1835.) Bellini and Chopin were close friends.
Died on 9/23/1835, Puteaux, France.
