Biography

American artist who appears in the popular series on MTV "The Real World: Chicago." After a 13-year struggle with alcohol and drugs, which he says began at age 11, he completed a detoxification and rehabilitation program in April 2001. Two months later, he auditioned for "The Real World."

A handsome young man, Beckman realized at 17 that he was gay and moved from his hometown to Boston, MA where he attended college and began painting seriously. Although his parents were divorced, he says they were supportive of his lifestyle.

He wrote a book about his experiences entitled "Clean: A New Generation in Recovery Speaks Out," published in 2005, and he has been on the lecture circuit sharing his story.
