Biography
Cuban military man who served as the dictator of his country from 1940-1944. Born into obscurity and poverty, he joined the Army on 14 April 1921. In a coup, Batista overthrew the Machado regime in August 1933, and, as General, seized control of the government on 10 March 1952 to become the ruler of Cuba's six million people. His regime was later overthrown by Fidel Castro on 1 January 1959.
Died in Guadalmina, Spain on 6 August 1973.
