Biography
Italian-American Welterweight Boxing Champion from 1955-57. He lost the title to Johnny Saxton, but regained it in a rematch. In 1957, he won the Middleweight title by defeating the great Ray Robinson in a 15-round split decision. Six months later, in early 1958, Sugar Ray took back his crown, beating Basilio in another grueling split decision. A fierce body puncher, he won 55 fights and lost 16, but was never counted out.
