Biography
American director and producer of plays and recipient of many Tony Awards. His work includes "Auntie Mame" and many plays of Samuel Becket and Edward Albee, including "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1962) for which he won a Tony. He was the President of the League of American Theaters and Producers beginning in 1967 until his death.
He died of liver failure and other complications from AIDS on January 9, 1989 in New York City.
