Biography
American molecular biologist awarded the 1975 Nobel Prize in Physiology for his trail-blazing discoveries regarding RNA. He was the head of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in 1982 and has spent his entire life trying to increase knowledge. He married Alice S. Huang, a microbiologist, in 1968; they have one daughter together.
Margot O'Toole, a junior researcher at M.I.T., reported in 1985 that the scientific paper that Baltimore co-wrote was based on falsified research by immunologist Thereza Imanishi-Kari. O'Toole lost her job, but an investigation by the National Institute of Health found in 1991 that her charges had been correct. Baltimore resigned from the presidency of Rockefeller University in New York City in 12/1991.
