Biography
French ecclesiastic, Roman Catholic Cardinal
He was ordained into the priesthood on September 3, 1961. Appointed Bishop of Dijon, France on November 6, 1982, he was installed in that position on December 12th that year. His rise through the ranks continued. On August 8, 1988 he was named Archbishop of Reims, France and on May 27, 1995, he was appointed Archbishop of Lyon. He received his Cardinal's hat on February 21, 1998 and was appointed Cardinal-Priest of San Pietro in Vincoli on February 21, 1998.
He died the following week on March 1, 1998.
