Biography

American boxer, 1933-56, who became the heavyweight champion in 1934 by knocking out Primo Carnera in the eleventh round. The following year, he lost to James Braddock. In 1968, Baer was elected to the Boxing Hall of Fame. During his boxing career, he acted in a few films, including "The Prizefighter and the Lady." He and his brother, Buddy, starred together in two films, 1951-1952.

Baer was married and divorced to actress Dorothy Dunbar. His son, Max Baer, Jr., appeared in TV and film and later became a producer and director. Max died of a heart attack on 11/21/1959, Hollywood, CA.
