Biography

British philosopher, statesman, author, lawyer and jurist whose essays rank among the greatest ever written. He became a lawyer in 1583 and held office under Queen Elizabeth I; Bacon later became a Member of Parliament. In 1621, he was accused of taking bribes and fined 40,000 pounds.

In late March 1616, Bacon became chilled and took ill. His health steadily declined until he died of bronchitis and pneumonia on Easter Sunday, 4/09/1626 OS, Highgate.
