Biography
German-American astronomer outstanding in the use of the large telescope. He discovered the asteroid Icarus and had a permanent post in the Mt. Wilson Observatory from 1931 until his retirement in 1958. He studied globular clusters and supernovas with special emphasis on the Andromeda nebula. Died on 6/25/1960, Gottingham, Germany.
