Biography

British Field Marshal, named the Commander in Chief of British forces in India January 1941. He was Commander in Chief of the British in the mid-east July 1941. On July 1 to 4, 1942, he defeated the Axis forces at the first battle of El Alemein but was replaced by General Alexander in mid-August 1942. From 1943-47, he was Commander in Chief of British Forces in India . Died 3/23/1981, Marrakesh, Morocco.
