Biography
American cardiologist best known for his revolutionary and controversial diet plan stressing low carbohydrates. Atkins died April 17, 2003 of head injuries sustained nine days earlier when he slipped on ice and fell outside his Manhattan office. He underwent brain surgery but slipped into a coma from which he never recovered.
