American singer with a voice so beautiful that it brought tears to the eyes of the listener. She made a debut with the New York Philharmonic on 8/27/1925, breaking color barriers due to not only the quality of her voice but for her professionalism and uncompromising standards, for overcoming obstacles and an undaunted spirit.

She died 4/08/1993, Portland, OR.
