Marian Anderson


American singer with a voice so beautiful that it brought tears to the eyes of the listener. She made a debut with the New York Philharmonic on 27 August 1925, breaking color barriers due to not only the quality of her voice but for her professionalism and uncompromising standards, for overcoming obstacles and an undaunted spirit.

She died 8 April 1993, Portland, OR.

LMR quotes news media that after Anderson's death, a family friend, June Goodman, was going through her papers and found her B.C. She had publicly given her birth date as February17, 1902 for years. There is no known time.
