Biography
French politiican, with several positions in her political career. In 1983 she won election as a town councillor for Ciboure; she followed that position with a similar one in Biarritz, concurrently serving as a member of the European Parliament. From 1992-2002 she served as Mayor for Saint-Jean-de-la-Luz.
In 2002 she became the first woman to hold the national position of Minister of Defense.
