Biography
American basketball player, the one-time coach of the Phoenix Suns. Growing up in Eugene, Oregon, it was fairly obvious early in the life of young Ainge that he was destined to be a sports superstar. While attending North Eugene High School, he earned All-State Honors in three sports, including basketball, baseball, and football. Basketball, however, was to be where Ainge would leave his mark forever. After graduating from high school, Ainge began playing basketball for Brigham Young University where he was a devastating force in victory. His NBA career began when the Boston Celtics drafted him in 1981; he was able to help lead the team to league victories in 1984 and 1986. Ainge also played with the Phoenix Suns before retiring from professional basketball in the mid-'90s in order to coach the team. He left the Suns organization in 1999, however, so that he could spend more time with his family while still commentating for TNN Sports.
