French archaeologist, pioneer of aerial archeology.

Agache has conducted research at the start of the Paleolithic and Neolithic in 1945, then he directed from 1959 to the aerial archeology in northern France, which is considered one of the leading pioneers. At that time he studied photo-interpretation of Raymond Chevallier who encouraged him to continue in this direction . He was a member of the scientific committee of the journal Archéologia . He was Director of Prehistoric Antiquities of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardyfrom 1963 to 1985, lecturer at the University of Caen, then a researcher at CNRS .

He is the author of over 200 publications. His work has been crowned by the CNRS, the French Academy of Architecture and the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres . He was awarded the Grand Prix National Archaeology (1983) and the Grand Prix of Geography (1978) for his work on the archaeological maps.

He died 17 September 2011.
