Biography
Swissair Flight 111, took off from Kennedy Airport in New York on 9/02/1998 at 20:16 EDT. At 21:14 the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit and was directed to Halifax Airport to make an emergency landing. At 21:25 the crew declared a higher level of emergency and began to dump fuel to prepare for landing. The plane's transponder ailed at 21:26:04 and investigators believe the plane hit the water at 21:31:22, based on seismographic information. The crash site is just off the coast of Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. All 229 people aboard were killed when the MD-11 aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
