Biography
American plane crash, an American Airlines 587 crashed in the Rockaway Beach section of Queens in New York City. Homes were on fire, and it was considered a level-one emergency with huge plumes of smoke and flames. All bridges, tunnels and airports were immediately shut down, and the fighter jets were overhead at once. The flight crashed in an upscale residential area.
All were lost, 246 passengers and 9 crew members on board as well as a half-dozen people on the ground. The flight was scheduled to depart at 8:30 AM, but left 94 minutes late due to security checks. The first thought was sabotage but it seems to have been mechanical failure.
