Biography
American charter bus crash in which a bus went off off an exit ramp overpass, fell 30 feet, and landed on its side on the highway below. Six people were killed including four student players, the bus driver and his wife. The remaining 29, 28 players and their coach, were injured, some seriously. Although the bus had been on the road all night, the relief driver had just come onboard the bus about an hour before the crash.
The bus was carrying a college baseball team from Mennonite-affiliated Bluffton University on their annual spring training trip to Florida. They had left Ohio at approximately 7 PM local time the evening before. Officials figured that the driver had mistaken the exit ramp for a highway lane. Bluffton University is about 50 miles south of Toledo.
