Data directory

This directory contains: please note: The contract and the full download zip file have been removed for the duration of 2026. Since we made scraping ADB more difficult, we are swamped with requests and have no capacity to deal with them or lead discussions. All interested partes have to be content with the large C sample, which remains available. adb_export_license.pdf 24-Apr-2016 15:12 76K A link to the most recent version of the license. before downloading the data file, this licensed must be signed and submitted to adbdata@astro.com It is recommened that any research project is developed and tested with the data contained in the c_sample file described below, before access to the full data set is requested. See below under Criteria for serious research. Preliminary results NEED TO be presented together with the license application. It is also helpful to demonstrate published astrological research activity in established journals, like Correlation, a journal to which every serious astrological researcher should subscribe when she/he starts her/his work. See https://correlationjournal.com/ Licenses to non-researchers are never granted. We also grant no licenses if the aim is to use ADB data for training AI systems. Please to not submit a contract unless you are sure that you fulfill our conditions. We do not want to waste your or our time by having to deal with unqualified requests. adb_export_DATE0.zip The latest full database. The zip archive contains a single xml file. The archive is encrypted with a password. It is only available to those who have signed the license and have fulfilled the criteria for being considered serious resarchers. See below under topic Criteria for serious research. The file name may carry a later date than shown here. The timestamp in the file name is in Switzerland legal time, i.e. CET or CEST. adb_export_update_DATE1.zip adb_export_update_DATE2.zip ... Optional files, updates to the latest complete database. The need to be applied in proper date sequence to the database, to arrive at the lastest state. Astrodienst usually publishes cumulative update files, so that only the latest one is needed and older ones will have been removed. Update files with a date older than the latest full database should be ignored, because the full database already contains them. These archives are encrypted with the same key as the complete database. adb_export_160715.xsd A formal description of the xml syntax used for export. The xsd file has been automatically created with java -jar trang.jar adb_export_160715_0949.xml adb_export_160715.xsd adb_export_sample.xml A sample xml file with about 30 records. adb_export_sample.zip A zip archive (not encrypted) containing the sample. c_sample.zip A zip archive containing all data with names starting with C, not encrypted. A total of 5866 data records, of which 4832 have AA or A rating, revision version Feb 2026. Researchers should use these data to develop their tools and techniques, before requesting access to the full data set. For testing software processes which need reliable data this large data set is sufficient. adb_export_sample.json A json file containing the sample data. It was created with: xml2json adb_export_sample.xml| json_pp > adb_export_sample.json This file serves as an example for how easily the xml format can be transformed into another format, via standard tools. adbx_dma.xsl A xsl script, which can extract birth data from the xml file into a TAB separated text file. This file serves as an example to show how conveniently data from an xml file can be extracted for processing. It is used like this: xsltproc adbx_dma.xsl adb_export_sample.xml adbxmerge.pl A perl program for merging several export xml files into one. A short description is inside the file. All examples above are for the Linux or Mac OS X command line, with the proper open source software installed. Sub-directories adb_pc_old Documentation of features of the old ADB PC software extras Files not intended for public view. Individuals may receive a download link to a file in this directory by email, from case to case. Existing Research Tool Link to ADB research tool Since May 2019, Astrodienst has extended its Astrodatabank system with a powerful research interface. Please try it out. It fulfills many needed of astrological data research. Criteria for Serious research Quote from reply which is sent to all applicants for data access. For us to give you the data access, we need more from you. We want to know more about your research project. We also want to know who you are and in what sense you are qualified for statistical astrological research. Links to your previous publications are helpful and welcome. Please describe in detail your planned research project - what tools and procedures you intend to apply upon the data - what patterns you are looking for - what data you are able to contribute for Astrodatabank. If you are not advanced enough in your project to answer these questions: Please use the subset contained in the file c_sample.zip to develop your project. It contains a significant set of 5734 data records, which is 7.4% of the full data set. That way, you can go ahead and develop your approach and start your investigation, using the C sample as reliable data. Then you can present your work and results achieved, and we will be happy to grant you access to the full data. We receive a lot of requests from software people whose real intention is not research, but integrating ADB data into their software and services. Without having ever contributed anything to astrology and the community. This is why we try the get an impression of how serious applicants are, and whether they are willing to contribute to the community, not only take from it. The fact is, when we send this kind of reply, in 9 out of 10 cases, we never hear from the querent again. That shows how rare real research engagement is, and how often the request for data access has other motives than qualified research. It is highly recommend to use Astrodienst's online research tool https://www.astro.com/cgi/aq.cgi/adb-search and to acquire the subscription Astrodienst Plus which gives full access to this tool. Licenses to non-researchers are never granted. We also grant no licenses if the aim is to use ADB data for training AI systems.
